'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Release Date News: Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver Back Story and Powers Unveiled
The upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron," the second instalment in the Avengers film franchise, is going to bring a host of new characters when it starts screening on May 1, 2015 in North America in 3D and IMAX 3D.
While a lot of attention has been devoted to Vision, a lot of buzz has also surrounded the siblings Scarlet Witch (played by Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson).
The two new characters have never been seen on screen before. A featurette released recently for the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron" film showed that the twins will start messing big time with the Avengers and they will have to escape to spend time alone and recuperate. The two characters were also depicted recently in solo posters which showcased their special abilities.
In the upcoming film, their back story will show that Wanda and Pietro Maximoff were orphaned when their apartment building collapsed and they adopted the names Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, respectively. As for their powers, Scarlet Witch is capable of telekinesis and can even introduce thoughts into her opponents' minds to confuse them. Her brother Quicksilver is incredibly fast. It is clear in the featurette that the duo will initially go up against the Avengers and pit them against each other.
Regarding their extraordinary powers, several websites noted that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are not mutants but actually are the remnants of a genetic experiment that the advanced alien race Kree started on Earth and subsequently abandoned.
Olsen described the two characters recently, saying that "Quicksilver is fast, quick and anxious, and she's grounded and thoughtful."
For his part, Johnson said for most parts of the duo's lives, it has been "them against the world."
As for the other characters in the film, James Spader will be playing Ultron while Andy Serkis is set to play the role of the other villain Ulysses Klaw.
The main focus will still be on Robert Downey Jr., who plays Iron Man/Tony Stark, and Chris Evans, who returns as Captain America. Also along for the ride are Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
