'Avengers: Infinity War' release date and rumors: Concept art mistakenly thought to be of Mistress Death
The next "Avengers" movie, "Infinity War," will be coming out in 2018, and it will be borrowing heavily from the "Infinity Gauntlet" storyline. One essential part is Thanos destroying half of the universe for Mistress Death, the embodiment of Death in the comics. Concept art from Marvel leaked online and fans thought it was of the Mistress, but this is simply not the case.
According to ComicBookMovie.com, the picture is not of Mistress Death but one of the zealots of Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) in the "Doctor Strange" movie. The image shows a woman in a black cape with what resembles a skull. In the comics, Death is a cloaked figure that is an actual skeleton, so the assumption that the art is supposed to be Mistress Death is understandable.
Since the concept of having Mistress Death in the movie universe can also seem a bit abstract, fans speculated that Cate Blanchett's character Hela from "Thor: Ragnarok" will be taking the role instead. Hela is the Asgardian Goddess of Death, so it's possible that Marvel will shake things up and make her the object of Thanos' (Josh Brolin) affection instead.
Earlier this month, Marvel CEO Kevin Feige even said, "Anything is possible." He then went on to say, "But knowledge of the comics can be both beneficial to fans anticipating things, and also misleading. So you'll have to see."
It's no doubt that origins have changed when it comes to the Marvel superheroes being brought to the Cinematic Universe, so it's possible that events in the film won't be exactly the same as in the comics. Ultron in the comics is an invention by Hank Pym, not Tony Stark like in the movie "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Fans will just have to wait and see what Marvel Studios has in store for the "Infinity War" movie.
"Avengers: Infinity War" is set for release on May 4, 2018.
