The video game is designed for the Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC, released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developed by the Rocksteady Studios. Its storyline is based on the DC Comics superhero, Batman.

With the Batman: Arkham Knight, many previous gameplay elements from older Arkhan games will be retained. This includes the detective vision, batarangs, line laucher, grapnel gun and the countering system. Players are able to fly throughout the city with the Batman cape. The grapnel gun can now be fired twice at a time while gliding, and can be used to instantly switch directions. The game also features a batarang sensor for gaining intel.

Batman is also able to counter enemy attacks and transfer them to other enemies for greater damage. He is also able to access grates even within long distances. The game introduces a new feature called "Fear Takedown" where Batman can control three enemies at one time and still remain undetected.

The synopsis of the game reads, "Arkham Knight features Batman (Kevin Conroy), a superhero trained to the peak of human physical and mental perfection and an expert in martial arts. He is aided by his friend police commissioner James Gordon, and Gordon's daughter Barbara, who operates covertly as the superhero Oracle. Rocksteady stated that Oracle is "such a strong character," that they wanted to "bring her to life in this game rather than have her as just [a] voice."

"Arkham Knight brings Batman into conflict with the super villains Scarecrow, Penguin (Nolan North), Two-Face (Troy Baker), Harley Quinn (Tara Strong), and Riddler (Wally Wingert). The game introduces the villain Arkham Knight, a character created specifically for the game by Rocksteady, DC Comics CCO and comic-book writer Geoff Johns, and DC co-publisher and comic artist Jim Lee. The Arkham Knight is described as a militarized version of Batman, with the "A" logo of the Arkham Asylum facility worn as an emblem on his chest," it continues.

The game was originally due for release in July 24 during Batman's 75th anniversary celebration but was otherwise moved to a later date (June 2, 2015).
