'Blade Runner 2049' release date, news: Director Denis Villeneuve says 'Blade Runner 2049' is his 'biggest artistic challenge' to date
Making a follow-up film to Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" isn't easy. The film won numerous awards and it has also garnered a cult following over the years since it came out 1982. So, how does Denis Villeneuve feel about directing "Blade Runner 2049"?
In an interview with Deadline, Villeneuve revealed that the film was so challenging for him and he believes it was his toughest movie yet. "It's the first time that I had to take the universe of someone else and to make it my own. It's very challenging, the biggest artistic challenge I've had in my life probably," he said.
Villeneuve also said his work on "Arrive" actually helped prepare him for the film. "'Arrival' was by far my most effects-oriented movie. It was so different it helped me to feel ready to go on the scope of 'Blade Runner,'" he stated.
Meanwhile, Ryan Gosling spoke with Fandango and he revealed that they have been filming for months before Harrison Ford got on set. So, that probably means Ford won't have that big of a role as some fans had hoped. But like the professional that he is, Ford got to work the second he arrived. He even gave Gosling a good punch in the face.
"We were just doing a fight scene and, you know, it just happened," Gosling told GQ Magazine. They joked about the accident afterward. Gosling said that when the crew brought ice for his face, Ford shoved him out of the way so he could stick his hand in the ice.
In other news, Trailer Track has reported that the first trailer for "Blade Runner 2049" has been rated, which means it will be coming out soon. The trailer is only a minute and 38 seconds long, which seems more like a teaser rather than a full trailer.
"Blade Runner 2049" is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 5, 2017.
