After finally revealing the mole, "Blindspot" returns next year to resolve the major cliffhanger during the fall finale.

The first half of season 2 left off with the FBI mole turning out to be the unassuming psychiatrist Dr. Robert Borden (Ukweli Roach). It was also revealed that he had a history with Jane (Jaimie Alexander) years before she was found with tattoos all over her body in the middle of New York City. Borden's betrayal also ended his relationship with Patterson (Ashley Johnson). After declining to follow Shepherd's (Michelle Hurd) order to kill Jane, Roman (Luke Mitchell) was "zipped" by Jane and was left in the same amnesiac state she was in at the beginning of the story.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, series creator Martin Gero said the intense finale actually gave more questions instead of answers. He also pointed out that one of the biggest questions posed by episode 9 was Shepherd's endgame, and it will probably be revealed at the back-half of season 2.

"The end of this season will be—I don't want to say a mad dash—but the [team] is very terrified of what Shepherd's plan is," he hinted. "They understand the scope of what she's already done and now they're in the dark, trying to use Roman, trying to use Weller and his connection with Jane, and trying to root out what is going on and what this has all been for."

As for Jane's decision to zip her brother, Gero teased that the repercussions of what Jane did will be further explored. After all, its effect on Roman remains to be seen. "Over the course of this half of a season, she realized, in a f–ked up way, that getting zipped was maybe the best thing that ever happened to her and she wants that for him," Gero told Yahoo TV. "That's what the back half of the season is about."

"Blindspot" season 2 returns to the airwaves on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
