'Bloodborne' PS4 Review Roundup: Reviewers Heap Praise, Compare Game to 'Dark Souls'
When "Bloodborne" was released last month exclusively on the PS4, it was immediately compared to the other games released by From Software including "Demons' Souls" and "Dark Souls."
As the reviews started to pour in, it became clear that the game had carved out a niche for itself. Many gamers noted how different it is from the two From Software games in terms of weapons, with some saying it is superior than them.
GameSpot in its review stated that "Bloodborne" had "excellent action, beautiful artistry, and religious melodrama," all of which make it a must-play for gamers familiar with the "Demon's Souls" tradition. The reviewer said he was able to finish "Bloodborne" sooner than he did "Dark Souls II" but came to treasure it more because of the death, life and redemption cycle present in it.
The atmosphere in "Bloodborne" and its storyline get a good mention in the review from Game Informer. It described the game as dripping with blood and horror with only a small amount of flaws.
In its review, The Escapist stated that the game is not going to meet everyone's approval. But for those people who are patient and "put in the time and effort to improve their skills in the complex and punishing combat system," they will relish the game.
GamesRadar, in its review, compared it to "Dark Souls" and "Dark Souls II" and described how it was better than the latter edition but trailed just behind the former. The reviewer said going through the game for the fourth time using the same template, most of the action can be anticipated. It classified the game as a "brilliant, brooding, brutal reinvention" of "Dark Souls," adding that it is "pretty bloody great."
All the praises heaped on "Bloodborne" seemed well deserved. It was recently announced that the game had sold over one million copies since it was released.
