'Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night' Release Date 2017: Gets Fully Funded in Less than 4 Hours on Kickstarter
"Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night," a new game produced by Koji "IGA" Igarashi who also worked on the Castlevania game series, is due to launch in 2017.
Funding for the game has been announced via a Kickstarter campaign, which reached fully funded status in four hours.
The initial campaign goal of $500,000 was reached on May 11 within four hours of the game being announced on Kickstarter. As of May 12, more than 17,800 backers have signed up and pledged $1,377,434, already exceeding the stretch goal of $1,250,000.
More information about the upcoming game "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night" was released on its Kickstarter page. It revealed that the game would be a 2.5D side scrolling game focused on exploration, role playing and crafting. As for direction and production, the game will be handled by Igarashi who will also work on scenario-writing for the game. The team that will work on the game will include composer Michiru Yamane and developer Inti Creates. Inti Creates also worked on "Azure Striker Gunvolt" and "Mega Man 9 &10."
The game was brought to the crown-funding platform Kickstarter after it failed to attract backers from among established publishing houses. Igarashi, who was formerly employed at Konami, left the company in 2014 as interest cooled in "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night."
He said he decided to use Kickstarter because he wanted to know if people would be interested enough to back the game. In addition to the funding from Kickstarter, Igarashi also said some investors were interested in the game and would provide most of the funds. But they would only commit if the crowd-funding campaign proved successful, he added.
Those who backed the game on Kickstarter with $60 will be given Xbox One and PS4 discs of the game as rewards.
"Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night" is being created using the Unreal Engine 4. It is expected to land on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux in March 2017.
