The holidays saw rap artist Bobby Shmurda spending time on Rikers Island after he was arrested by police officers along with more than 15 members of his GS9 crew outside of Quad Studios near Times Square in New York, on Dec. 17. They were arraigned the following day.

Also arrested was Chad Marshall, another rap artist who goes by the name Rowdy Rebel.

Reports said those arrested were charged with murder and attempted murder, in addition to assault and drug trafficking. Twenty-one guns were seized by the NYPD during the course of their investigation, including 10 firearms that were found during Wednesday's arrest. A small bag of crack cocaine was also found inside the car Shmurda was riding.

Shmurda was among those linked to a murder case and several shootings that took place in New York and Miami.

Bail was set at $2 million each for Shmurda and Marshall. Shmurda's lawyer Howard Greenberg earlier stated that Epic Records, which had signed the two artists to a lucrative deal, would post their bail.

However, since that statement by Shmurda's lawyer Howard Greenberg, Epic Records has not issued any statement about posting bail. Latest reports indicated that Epic Records has no plans to post bail. Shmurda remains incarcerated on Rikers Island where he was recently rumored to have been stabbed by a fellow inmate.

With the prosecution accusing Shmurda as the "driving force behind the GS9 gang and the organizing figure within this conspiracy," it is likely that he will remain in jail until he manages to raise the money for bail himself.

Over Christmas, Shmurda was visited by his family in jail. Shmurda's attorney recently released a statement saying the charges against his client were "a bunch of bullshit."

Describing the extensive charges against the rapper and GS9, Greenberg said Shmurda was just "charged with talking" which is "nothing serious."

Greenberg was also quoted as saying that Shmurda was "rich and busy as he is always on tour and while the charges describe him as the leader of GS9, he has not been charged with any violence."
