'Bones' season 12 air date, spoilers, latest news: Zack captures Brennan; ex-boyfriend Sully to break Booth and Brennan up?

The 12th and final season of "Bones" is just days away, and many of its loyal viewers are already anxiously anticipating how the Fox series will come to an end.

Season 11 concluded with Brennan (Emily Deschanel) waking up to see her former Jeffersonian intern, Zack (Eric Millegan), who tells her, "Dr. Brennan, it is good to see you again. You and I, we have so much to talk about."

Recently, Fox posted a promotional clip from the first episode of "Bones" season 12. The clip picks up where the season 11 cliffhanger left off. In the teaser, Brennan is confused about what is happening when she soon realizes that Zack has captured her. She pleads to her former intern to let her go, warning him that Booth (David Boreanaz) will be looking for them. However, her warning falls on deaf ears.

"Dr. Brennan, I know you're used to me being your assistant, always telling me what to do," Zack tells her, adding, "Today, the shoe is on the other foot."

There are many speculations about Zack's plans for kidnapping Brennan, varying from theories that he is a killer or that he has some ulterior agenda that is yet to be known. It is also possible that Zack could be helping Brennan in some way but is unable to explain himself properly yet.

Aside from Brennan's kidnapping and Booth and the team's efforts to find her, there are also many other storylines to look forward to in the upcoming 12th season of "Bones." According to Cinema Blend, actor Eddie McClintock will be making an appearance in the upcoming season. McClintock previously portrayed the role of Tim "Sully" Sullivan, Brennan's ex-boyfriend from all the way back in Season 2.

Sully's return will reportedly bring tension to Brennan's romantic relationship with Booth. Some events in the season will put Brennan in an emotionally vulnerable place, and Sully's appearance might lead her further in making some poor decisions that could reverberate to her marriage with Booth.

The 12th season of "Bones" will have 12 episodes, and it is scheduled to premiere on Jan. 3, 2017.
