'Bones' season 12 episode 3 spoilers: Team gets involved in retirement home drama; cast and creators speak on show's cancellation and possible revival
Retirement home drama turns into a deadly crime on the upcoming episode of Fox's long-running procedural "Bones" season 12.
Titled "The Final Chapter: The New Tricks in the Old Dogs," next week's episode will see the team get a bit too involved with a case they're working on. According to the official synopsis, a body of an old man is discovered in an acid dump site. While finding new leads, the Jeffersonian team becomes caught up in retirement home drama. As they work on the case, discussion about kids and marriage begins to dominate the conversation back at the forensic lab.
After 12 years on the air, "Bones" is now on its farewell season with only 10 episodes left. Many fans were devastated when Fox announced the show's cancellation, and it turns out that the decision to wrap it up was not a mutual one. On Wednesday's Television Critics Association press tour panel, series creator Hart Hanson mentioned that Fox made the final call to axe the long-running drama.
"It wasn't our decision," Hanson said, adding, "We were told it was our last year. It wasn't that we called the network and said, 'We'd like to finish it.' [But] I'm not sure anyone was terribly upset or terribly shocked that it would be our last year."
In terms of a possible revival in the future, executive producer Michael Peterson already said that he's open to doing a reunion. However, the show's two lead stars seem hesitant to commit to it. "Everything is possible in life, but I tend to like to go forward," David Boreanaz explained. "In general, I don't like reunions, and I don't like to go backwards. It's hard for me to answer that question," he went on to say.
As for Emily Deschanel, the actress said she'd "like some time" to pass by before wearing Brennan's lab gown again, adding that it would be weird if she comes back so soon after the series finale.
The 12th and final season of "Bones" airs every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
