'Bones' season 12 spoilers: the past will haunt both Booth and Aubrey

The past will continue to haunt Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) in the next episode of "Bones" season 12.

In the episode titled "The Price for the Past," the couple will deal with a new case that may have a connection with their past.

Based on the trailer for the upcoming episode, Brennan will process the body of a torture victim whose body had been burrowed with an animal when still alive. But as they delve deeper into the investigation, Booth realizes that the crime is about revenge, and it may have something to do with him.

However, the trailer did not explain exactly how Booth's past has to do with the present crime. The identity of the killer also remains a mystery.

Meanwhile, Booth's subordinate James Aubrey (John Boyd) will also deal with his own personal problem in the upcoming episode. According to the synopsis posted on The Futon Critic, Aubrey's father will appear in the upcoming episode.

The complete synopsis reads: "The team investigates the murder of someone from Booth and Brennan's past. Meanwhile, Aubrey faces a moral dilemma of his own when he discovers his dad is back in the picture."

The episode is part of the final season of the long-running crime procedural series from FOX.

Series creator Hart Hanson talked about the show's final season in a heartfelt letter that he wrote to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to Hanson, the final day on the set involved the filming of the very last sequence for the series, where Booth and the "Squints" composed of Brennan, Hodgins (T.J. Thyne), Camille Saroyan (Tamara Taylor) and Angela Montenegro (Michaela Conlin) were all present.

"Without spoiling the series finale, let's say there was a certain elegiac quality to it," the series creator stated. "As there was with the director and cast — Boreanaz, Tamara Taylor, T.J. Thyne, Michaela Conlin and Emily Deschanel — because everybody knew it was the last time this core cast would work together."

FOX has yet to reveal the release date of the series finale of "Bones" in the coming days.
