"NYPD Blue" alum Jimmy Smits is set to play a former cop in an upcoming episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 4.

The Hollywood vet, who played NYPD Detective Bobby Simone in the long-running police procedural drama, will guest-star as Amy's (Melissa Fumero) doting dad, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Mr. Santiago will appear in the Thanksgiving-themed episode airing Tuesday, Nov. 22. According to the outlet, Amy's dad has a Type A personality similar to hers and Jake (Andy Samberg) will spend the holiday doing anything he can to impress him.

Though Smits is only set to appear in one episode, his character, as all other guests, will continue to remain in the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" world, with the chance to reappear in future episodes.

Smits will reappear on FOX later this season in "24: Legacy," in which he plays a powerful U.S. senator married Rebecca Ingram (Miranda Otto), the former head of the CTU. The actor also stars in "The Get Down," Netflix's new musical drama.

Apart from Smits, the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 4 guest roster also includes Rhea Perlman, Jorma Taccone, Maya Rudolph, Ken Marino, Jim O'Heir and Matt Walsh.

Meanwhile, this week's much-hyped "Brooklyn Nine-Nine"-"New Girl" crossover — a mash-up seemingly so perfect it couldn't possibly fail — has been receiving some unenthusiastic reviews.

According to HitFix, while Jess Day's (Zooey Deschanel) antics seem perfectly in sync with the rest of the characters in "New Girl," she "came across as a weird complainer who had stumbled into the story without explanation" when placed in a scene with Jake.

Slate called the one-episode crossover a "big missed opportunity," saying that "There was no moment that comedically or narratively justified the overlap."

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 4 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX. It will have its fourth annual Halloween Heist episode on Oct. 18.
