'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' news: First-person shooter to introduce more content in 2017; PC version gets unranked dedicated servers
New content for "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" may continue to be released in 2017, developer Treyarch has recently revealed.
During a Facebook live stream last Thursday, studio head Dan Bunting shared that the video game remains popular, pushing the developers to come up with more fresh content for fans. Although he didn't divulge further details, Bunting mentioned that they are looking forward to bring new updates for the game.
"I cannot say anything specifically at this point in time, but I can say that as Treyarch, we are excited about this game," he explained (via Charlie Intel). "And as long as they continue playing our game, we're going to continue to support it in the same way. We can look forward to another healthy and fun year of updates in 2017," the studio added.
More Zombie support can also be expected by players, adds Treyarch's Jason Blundell. This includes a new mystery feature known as "Newton's Cookbook." When asked about new content, Blundell admitted that he can't reveal anything definitive yet. "I am afraid I cannot say anything right now," he said.
On another note, the game's most recent update adds new assets to its mod tools and introduces unranked dedicated servers for PC. Treyarch developer Cesar Stastny teased the news earlier this week when he tweeted about it last Wednesday, saying, "Coming soon for BlackOps3 PC: Unranked Dedicated Server files! A lot more Mod Tools assets! And some other stuff."
The addition of unranked dedicated servers essentially means that players now have the ability to host and manage their own private servers. This enables them to play by their own rules, outside of the control of Activision's official forums. Complete details, including how to manage servers through a remote console, can be viewed on the game's Steam forum thread.
Released last year, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" was dubbed as 2015's overall best-selling title. As of August 2016, it's still the best-selling current-generation game, according to Activision.
