'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' release date, news: Update 1.17 drops ahead of Salvation DLC Oct. 6 release
Update 1.17 has arrived for "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" on the Xbox One and PS4, ahead of the Oct. 6 release of the Salvation downloadable content (DLC) pack for the Xbox One and PC.
Though many "Call of Duty" fans are already looking forward to "Infinite Warfare," the upcoming 13th installment in the "Call of Duty" series, Treyarch is still updating "Black Ops 3." Update 1.17 brings numerous new features and fixes to the game.
According to PlayStation LifeStyle, the update clocks in at 1.4 GB and revamps both the Zombies and the multiplayer modes.
The various tweaks the update brings to "Black Ops 3" also include improved stability with group invites and switching game modes, better overall networking performance, and changes to the multiplayer and Zombies maps.
Meanwhile, Salvation, the fourth DLC for "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3," will be released later this week on the Xbox One and PC. "Salvation," the final map pack for "Black Ops 3," was launched in August and was released for the PS4 in September.
GameRant notes that Salvation introduces four new multiplayer maps to the multiplayer component of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3." These include the all-new maps Micro and Citadel, along with new versions of the MP maps Outskirts (now called Rupture) from "World at War" and Standoff (now Outlaw) from "Black Ops 2."
In addition to the multiplayer maps, Salvation also adds Revelations, the final Zombies map. According to GameRant, the most striking feature of Revelations is how it incorporates familiar locations from old maps in the Zombies game mode. It also adds new areas for players to discover.
The Salvation DLC pack will be released on Thursday, Oct. 6. It can be purchased for $14.99 but season pass owners can download it automatically.
"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" is currently available for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
