'Cars 3' movie plot spoilers rumors: McQueen gears up for new race, will train under Cruz Ramirez's supervision
Stock racing car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) will again be in a competition — this time more technologically advanced and sophisticated — in the upcoming third installment of the animated film series "Cars." A new female race car in the name of young Hispanic Cruz Ramirez will be introduced to train McQueen and ascertain his place of victory.
According to USA Today, "Cars 3" director Brian Fee said that Cruz Ramirez, the newest addition to the roster of cars in the movie, will try and find a way to teach "old dog" McQueen new tricks.
Pixar's animation franchise which features personified cars as characters has witnessed the progress of McQueen as a racer through its first two installments. The famous red stock car has gone from having been a newbie racer in the Piston Cup in 2006's "Cars" movie to being an experienced World Grand Prix participant in 2011 "Cars 2" movie. This time in "Cars 3," McQueen will return with a racing status that goes farther than a veteran race athlete.
Fee analyzed McQueen's career considering the real-world timeline. The director said that McQueen may not be old but is actually an older car compared with the rookies joining in and is at the point in his career wherein the question of retirement will inevitably come in.
Apart from Cruz, Fee talked about another new introduction in "Cars 3" and he will be racing newcomer Jackson Storm. Jackson Storm will be the flagship representative of the generation of racing rookies who will be entering the "Cars 3" scene. Fee explained that this places McQueen in a situation wherein the racing generation he belongs to is being pushed out, although the "door" to his exit has yet to be made known.
Considering the circumstances of McQueen's age and being part of a relatively old generation of racers, the four-time Piston Cup champion will then be needing some new tips and tricks from Cruz. She will be at hand to help him adjust through and eliminate the technical gap. She will prepare McQueen for the Florida 500.
The production of "Cars 3" is underway and several of its aspects are still being finalized such as the casting of voices behind the new characters.
"Cars 3" is slated to race to the theaters on June 16, 2017.
