'Chicago Fire' season 5 spoilers: crossover with 'Chicago P.D.' centered on Severide revealed
A crossover episode between "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago P.D." will take place next year. It will center on Severide (Taylor Kinney) and his growing need to hit that reset button.
This storyline will be set up in the fall finale (episode 8) of "Chicago Fire" season 5 airing this Tuesday, Dec. 6, in which Severide questions what he is doing with his life.
A sneak peek of the episode shows Severide opening up to Casey (Jesse Spencer) about failing to remember the name of the girl he slept with the night before.
Casey then suggested that they spend some bro time together so that he could "recharge [his] batteries" and just be disconnected with the world before they return to it again.
Executive producer Derek Haas detailed in an interview with TVLine how this "little chat" from the "Chicago Fire" season 5 fall finale will come into play in the "big Severide story" for the crossover.
"[Casey] says, 'Let's get away, let's go fishing,' and something kind of happens [which] throws a wrench in that idea, but for a better purpose, I think," the EP explained.
"So we have some crossovers that have to do with my character, which lead into a crossover that we do on P.D. with Mouch (Christian Stolte) and Severide," he went on to say.
What will happen in the crossover remains to be seen, but it looks like "Chicago Fire" has up their sleeves some big plans that will move forward the development of Kinney's character, who has been a bit lost and at a loss in the recent episodes.
As for the "Chicago Fire" season 5 fall finale, Severide receives an "interesting proposition" from a firefighter-turned-medical student Jeff Clarke (guest star Jeff Hephner).
"Chicago Fire" season 5, episode 8, "One Hundred," which also serves as the 100th episode of the show (hence the title), will air on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
