'Chicago Med' season 2 cast, spoilers news 2016: Dr. Halstead gets a new love interest; Mekia Cox has recurring role

Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) may have missed his chance with Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) in the season 1 finale of "Chicago Med," but it now appears that he will be getting his own love interest in the medical drama's upcoming sophomore season.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Will and pathologist Nina Shore (Patti Murin), who entered the scene in season 1, will get to know each other more intimately in the new season.

"I'm really excited for fans to see how season 2 begins," the actor told EW and added: "Things get intimate between my character, Dr. Halstead, and pathologist Nina Shore. Fun fact: Patti Murin, who plays Nina, also happens to be Colin Donnell's real-life wife. I just hope he's not on set when our characters find themselves in a romantic embrace!"

Donnell plays trauma surgeon Dr. Connor Rhodes in the NBC series.

But while Will may be getting himself a possible new girlfriend in season 2, "Chicago Med" executive producer Andrew Schneider says that his feelings for Natalie "will never go away."

Meanwhile, Deadline has learned that "90210" alum Mekia Cox is set to appear in a recurring role in the upcoming "Chicago Med" season 2. Cox is set to portray Dr. Robin Charles, the grown-up daughter of Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt). Robin is an epidemiologist who is handed a difficult case that will reportedly further strain her relationship with Daniel.

Prior to her casting in "Chicago Med," Cox appeared on ABC's "Secrets & Lies" and Fox's "Gotham."

As for the rumored four-show crossover being planned between NBC shows "Chicago Med," "Chicago Fire," "Chicago P.D.," and "Law & Order: SVU," executive producer Dick Wolf recently confirmed that it will occur in early 2017.

While Wolf admitted that pulling off a four-way crossover will be very complicated, he also revealed during the Television Critics Association's summer press tour that "It's a question of how intensely would a crossover story impact on all four shows."

"It's a little premature, but I think there will definitely be a four-way sometime in the spring," he revealed.

"Chicago Med" season 2 is set to premiere on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
