Mekia Cox will be the show's latest addition and she will portray the character of Dr. Charles' (Oliver Platt) daughter, Robin Charles. She is an epidemiologist who follows her father's footsteps into the medical field. Robin will enter the picture to assess a difficult case, but her arrival will further complicate her fractured relationship with her father who happens to be the psychiatry department chief. Cox's other acting credits include "Secrets & Lies" and "Undercover."

This will be the first time that a member of Dr. Charles will make an appearance in the series. Back in season 1, the show introduced several family members of the series regulars including Dr. Rhodes' (Colin Donnell) estranged sister and father as well as April's (Yaya DaCosta) brother. To boot, Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) is the brother of Det. Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), a key character from another installment titled "Chicago P.D."

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Diane Frolov says that Robin's appearance is part of their plan as they delve deeper into Dr. Charles' backstory. "We'll get a bigger insight into his past few years, with his own personal demons that he's hinted about," she teased. "We'll meet his youngest daughter, who is eight years old, and we'll meet his elder daughter, who's 25, from his first marriage." In the same interview, co-executive producer Andrew Schneider added that Robin and her father's reunion will unravel more interesting details on Dr. Charles' life.

Cox joins other season 2 newcomers Ato Essandoh, who will portray Dr. Rhodes' new mentor and Jeff Hephner, who will reprise his role as Jeff Clarke—a character who crossed over from "Chicago Fire."

Tune in to the season 2 premiere of "Chicago Med" on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
