A few days after Apple launched its new MacBook, Google announced the release of its new Chromebook lineup dubbed the Chromebook Pixel 2015. With the new Chromebook, Google seeks to remove the "budget" tag on its laptop and replace it with a premium label.

The new Chromebook will come in two versions, both with Intel Core processors. Available on the new Google Store, the model with the Intel Core i5 processor clocked at 2.2GHz costs $999. The costlier model comes with the LS (Ludicrous Speed) tag and features an Intel Core i7 processor clocked at 2.4GHz and priced at $1,299.

As for the design of the Chromebook Pixel 2015, it is very much like its predecessor and features an all-metal body and a plastic hinge. It even has the same box-like design. It also features a light bar on the back that displays how much battery life is left when it is tapped.

The multi-touch display on the new Chromebook Pixel 2015 measures 12.85 inches with a resolution of 2560 x 1700 pixels and a density of 239 pixels per inch. It has been earning raves from reviewers. In terms of RAM, the Core i5 processor version comes with 8GB while the costlier Core i7 processor version comes with 16GB.

A major difference between the Chromebook Pixel 2015 and other laptops is that the former runs the Chrome OS, which means it works well with the Chrome browser but still lags behind other operating systems in terms of functionality. As with the MacBook, the Chromebook also has the new USB Type-C port. The Verge noted that more laptop manufacturers are beginning to use this new standard.

Aside from the USB Type-C port, the Chromebook Pixel 2015 has a headphone/mic jack, USB 3 ports and a provision for an SD card slot.
