Netflix recently released a promotional trailer for their upcoming horror movie "Clinical."

According to Bloody Disgusting, the film is about a psychologist's horrifying encounter with a disturbed young patient, an experience which continues to haunt her and will cause her to question even her own sanity, with her visions of the past becoming seemingly more visceral.

Alistair Legrand directed the film and co-wrote the script with Luke Harvis, whom Legrand also collaborated with in the 2015 film "The Diabolical."

"Clinical" stars Vinessa Shaw ("Ray Donovan") in the lead role of Dr. Jane Mathis, a psychiatrist who is forced to undergo counseling after suffering from a traumatic experience when a deranged patient violently attacked her. In addition to Shaw, the cast also includes William Atherton ("Ghostbusters", "Die Hard") as Jane's psychiatrist, Aaron Stanford ("12 Monkeys"), and Sydney Tamiia Poitier ("Death Proof").

According to Screen Rant, "Clinical," based on the trailer, appears to be Netflix's hardest-edged horror offering yet. The trailer displayed more graphic violence than in movies such as "I Am the Pretty Thing" and "Spectral" in their entirety.

At the same time, the trailer leaves enough mystery for people to wonder what exactly is going on with Jane. It is not certain whether her visions of her murderous patient are memories, hallucinations or outright evil ghostly hauntings.

After the steady and long-established success of its original series like "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New Black," Netflix has, in the last year or so, been venturing to become a leading source for exclusive feature films as well.

In the past, it released different movies across a wide variety of genres. In comedy, it released films such as Adam Sandler's "Ridiculous 6" and "The Do-Over," while it also released award-winning dramas such as "Beasts of No Nation." Its recent efforts in horror flicks include "Spectral" and "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House."

"Clinical" is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on Friday, Jan. 13.
