Conor McGregor UFC news: Mayweather Sr. says McGregor is no match for his son; White says fight will never happen

Despite the fact that they are competing in two different sports, the camps of pound-for-pound boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Conor McGregor have continued to throw verbal jabs at one another. Now, it's time for Floyd Mayweather Sr. to weigh in on the potential boxing match fight between his son and McGregor.

"I think Conor McGregor is a talker and not a doer. Whatever he did in MMA, he's not going to be able to get away with [in boxing]," he told Fight Hub TV (via Yahoo Sports)

Mayweather Sr. also saw a clip of McGregor's fight with Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, and he admitted that the Irish fighter's fundamentals weren't bad. But he still believed that his son would tear McGregor apart if they do meet in a boxing ring.

"Floyd's [would] tear him up, man. Even though Floyd is not a big puncher, Floyd can hit him with jabs and stuff all night, man, and cut him up. My son's gonna cut his beard for him," he said.

Mayweather Sr. may think that his son will mop the floor with McGregor, but after UFC head Dana White heard about what Mayweather Jr. has been saying about slapping McGregor if they ever meet on the streets, he blasted (via TMZ Sports) the boxer and said his fighter was the last person Mayweather Jr. would want to meet outside the ring.

White also said that fight would never happen. "Let me tell you what. That fight will happen before Floyd tries to walk up to Conor and slap him I promise you that too."

In other news, McGregor may face Khabib Nurmagomedov when he returns to defend the UFC lightweight belt. Nurmagomedov is undefeated in 24 fights, and he steamrolled over Michael Johnson in their fight at UFC 205. His grappling skills are light years ahead of McGregor's, so the champ may get in trouble if the fight goes to the ground.

However, that fight won't be happening anytime soon because McGregor is currently on a hiatus. He said he wasn't going to take another fight until he talked with new UFC owners Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell.
