'Dancing With the Stars' Season 20 Cast News: New Season Starts With Rumer Willis and Valentin Chmerkovskiy
"Dancing with the Stars" sashayed into its 20th season with its premiere episode on Monday at 8/7c on ABC.
The episode saw a number of couples perform well on the dance floor. But Rumer Willis and Valentin Chmerkovskiy were the pair who managed to foxtrot their way into the lead.
Action on the dance floor started with the show's youngest contestant, Willow Shields, teamed up with Mark Ballas and performed the Cha-Cha. Shields got raves for her ability to dance naturally. But she also drew criticism from the judges because of sloppy leg movements.
Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson followed next, likewise dancing the Cha-Cha. Herjavec drew a number of good mentions from the judges who praised his agility.
Riker Lynch and Allison Holker then emerged as threats with a superb jive. Their performance earned a total score of 31 points.
Next up was the pair of Charlotte McKinney and Keo Motsepe. They ended up with a total of 22 points due to her missing a few steps on the jive.
Patti LaBelle and Artem Chigvintsev who performed the foxtrot got a better score of 25 from the judges who praised LaBelle. She also got a huge round of applause from the audience.
Chris Soules and Witney Carson were up next and their jive turned into a playful and awkward affair. They managed to get 26 points.
Michael Sam and Peta Murgatroyd then performed the Cha-Cha and ended up with the same score.
Then Nastia Liukin and Derek Hough performed the foxtrot and got a score of 30 from the judges who were quick to point out obvious flaws in an otherwise great performance.
Then followed Redfoo and Emma Slater with the Cha-Cha and they ended up with 22 points because of sloppy technique.
Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess also performed the Cha-Cha and ended up with 26 points. Their performance was well appreciated by the judges and the audience. Galloway was a former soldier whose arm and leg were blown off during the Iraq war. Despite his handicap, he was still able to deliver a stellar performance.
Second to last performers were Suzanne Somers and Tony Dovolani who performed the Cha-Cha. They ended up with 25 points as the judges thought she should have taken more risks.
The last pair, Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy, performed the foxtrot. They ended up as leaders with 32 points as the judges praised Willis for her intensity.
