'Daredevil' season 3 release date news: Season 3 release moved to 2018; Wilson Fisk returning?
"Daredevil" fans will have to wait a bit longer for the Netflix show's new season.
Based on the alleged production schedule of Netflix and Marvel TV, "Daredevil" season 3 will not be here until at least 2018. While the streaming service announced earlier this year that "Daredevil" will indeed be returning for a third season, it now appears that viewers will have to be patient as Marvel TV will debut its three new superhero shows ("Luke Cage," "Iron Fist," and "The Defenders") before releasing the next seasons of "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones."
This was first revealed in July this year when Entertainment Weekly senior writer Natalie Abrams tweeted, "Marvel/Netflix sked: Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders THEN 2nd and 3rd seasons of the other shows and Punisher."
Given that the second season of "Daredevil" ended with multiple cliffhangers, the wait for season 3 could be an agonizing one. It also comes as a bit of a surprise for fans of the series, as the sophomore run of "Daredevil" was released less than a year after the freshman season dropped.
One of the main reasons for the delay is that Daredevil himself (Charlie Cox) will appear alongside the rest of the Marvel TV heroes in the upcoming "The Defenders." The new Netflix series will have Daredevil, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) teaming up to fight the bad guys.
"The Defenders" is scheduled to begin filming this year, pushing back the production dates of "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones." The miniseries will reportedly serve as a pre-cursor to the next seasons of these two Marvel-based Netflix series.
Meanwhile, one of the biggest questions about "Daredevil" season 3 is who the main villain will be. Given that season 1's Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) was still alive (but imprisoned) at the end of that season, could the villain show up at some point in season 3?
In a recent interview with IGN, D'Onofrio spoke about the possibility of Fisk re-emerging in "Daredevil" season 3 or in another Marvel TV/Netflix series such as the upcoming "The Punisher."
While the actor admitted that he couldn't divulge any actual information about the future of his "Daredevil" character, he also said, "I know that because of [executive producer Jeph Loeb's] love of the character and the 'Daredevil' series, that that's probably not finished, that whole deal when it comes to Fisk."
"But when and where and how is not something I can talk about," D'Onofrio added. "I know that there's ... anybody that knows the whole 'Daredevil' and 'Punisher' series, they know that there's a lot of Fisk in there," he also said.
Netflix has not announced the official release date for "Daredevil" season 3.
