'Deadpool 2' news: Composer leaves following director Tim Miller's exit; production begins in 2017?
Another key member of the "Deadpool 2" production staff has exited the project.
In a recent Facebook post, composer Tom Holkenborg, who also goes by the name Junkie XL, announced that he has decided to opt out of the upcoming film following the departure of "Deadpool" director Tim Miller. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Miller had dropped out due to creative differences with star and executive producer Ryan Reynolds.
Holkenborg said that while he loves Deadpool and that scoring the first film was a "monumental chapter" in his life, he doesn't feel right about being involved in the film without Miller direction.
"It is with a heavy heart that I have decided not to score the upcoming Deadpool movie," he wrote.
"'Deadpool' without Tim at the helm just does not sit right with me and that is why I have decided not to be involved in the second chapter," he explained. "It was a difficult decision, as I love the project so much and i know how eagerly the next installment will be anticipated, it's hard to walk away from something so unique, but it also has to feel right," he added.
Aside from "Deadpool," Holkenborg has also scored the films "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (2016), "Mad Max: Fury Road" (2015), and "Point Break" (2015). This year, he is set to begin working on the scores for the highly anticipated films "Justice League" (2017) and "The Dark Tower" (2017).
Meanwhile, What's Filming reports that despite major setbacks, "Deadpool 2" will begin filming early next year. The website notes that the film is expected to begin production in Vancouver in January 2017.
As for who will take Miller's place on the director's chair, "John Wick" director David Leitch, "The Martian" writer Drew Goddard, and "Luke Cage" director Magnus Martens have recently been rumored to be in consideration for the film.
"Deadpool 2" is tentatively scheduled for a March 2, 2018 release.
