Deadpool Movie Release Date, Cast News: 'Homeland' Actress to Play Love Interest for Ryan Reynolds
"Homeland" star Morena Baccarin has been cast in the upcoming Marvel film "Deadpool," which also stars Ryan Reynolds.
Baccarin, who has been playing the love interest of young Detective Jim Gordon on "Gotham," was one of a handful of actresses who were shortlisted to play a woman who fell in love with Ryan Reynold's character, The Hollywood Reporter said.
The "V" and "Firefly" actress is said to play a currently unnamed character who grapples with falling for a man with a hideously scarred face and violent tendencies.
Baccarin is no stranger to the comic book universe, having recently put in guest spots on "Gotham" and "The Flash."
She will join T.J. Miller and Gina Carano, who were also recently brought onto the project, which will be directed by Tim Miller.
Miller, whose credits include "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," is tapped to direct the movie which is scheduled for a Feb. 12, 2016 release ahead of the next major X-Men installment, "X-Men: Apocalypse," which premieres on May 27, 2016.
The film is based on a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick while Simon Kinberg is producing with Lauren Shuler Donner.
The brunette beauty will also appear in Paul Feig's upcoming action-comedy "Spy," opposite Melissa McCarthy.
Last December, Reynolds was confirmed to play Marvel's wisecracking superhero after months of rumors and a leaked screen test.
"Deadpool" is one of several Marvel properties whose movie rights are controlled by other companies, thanks to deals signed before Marvel became a movie-making powerhouse.
Those include the Fantastic Four, Spider Man and X-Men franchises. Marvel and Sony Pictures, the latter of which has held the rights to the web-slinging superhero since 1999, announced earlier this month that Spider-Man would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon.
