'Death Stranding' release date and updates: Hideo Kojima says game will have online and open-world elements
Fans of Hideo Kojima were saddened when he left Konami and the "Metal Gear" franchise. Now he has a new project called "Death Stranding" and he will be working on it closely with "The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus.
Not much has been said about this game and the trailer left many fans puzzled. Kojima has revealed a few more elements in the game, albeit being a bit cryptic.
According to Game Informer, the title will be an "open-world action with online elements." This is based on Kojima's speech during Sony's Pre-Tokyo Game Show Press Conference held last Tuesday. Judging the trailer alone, gamers couldn't tell what "Death Stranding" is really about. Knowing that Kojima is a seasoned game developer, they just have to trust what he has up his sleeve.
Kojima had been saying that he wanted to connect players "by a rope or strand element." The statement is still pretty confusing to some but hopefully it will all be made clear when the game comes out.
Kojima had also confirmed that the game will be able to support 4K and HDR resolution to promise gamers the most vivid-looking game. Kojima Productions is an independent studio, but Kojima aims to create a "triple-A, world class" masterpiece that is befitting of a brand with more resources.
According to Wired, the game had origins with the cancelled "Silent Hills" project that Kojima was working on with "Hellboy" director Guillermo del Toro. A cartoon caricature of the developers seemed to tease the involvement of del Toro in "Death Stranding." There was also the presence of a fourth person in the drawing and some have speculated that it was "Hannibal" star Mads Mikkelsen who was rumored to be working on Kojima's project as well.
Hopefully Kojima's first game post-Konami will be a hit with gamers from all around. As of now there is no official release date for "Death Stranding."
