Dell Canvas release date, specs, price news: smart workspace with touchscreen display ideal for creatives
At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Dell introduced the Canvas — the world's first horizontal smart workspace designed for content developers, designers and artists. While the Dell Canvas will not be able to escape comparisons with the recently released Microsoft Surface Studio, the innovative device is actually based on the company's smart desk concept introduced back in 2014.
The Dell Canvas features a 27-inch Quad HD IPS display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. In terms of dimensions, it is 446 mm tall, 792 mm wide and weighs 18.5 pounds. It also has anti-glare coating and Corning Gorilla Glass on top for enhanced durability. Moreover, the display has support for up to 1.07 billion colors and has a 100 percent Adobe RGB color gamut.
The smart workspace has touch, totem and pen capabilities and can be used at any angle including lying flat on the desk. This will allow users to interact with the content they are creating. Since the Dell Canvas can be used for a wide variety of tasks, it also streamlines the whole creative process.
More specifically, the Dell Canvas 27 is able to recognize 20 different points of touch. It can also be used with the highly-precise Dell Canvas Pen for sketching or drawing, as well as dual-handed productivity. The experience is very natural and like writing with a pen on paper. Totems also come standard. These are physical solid-cap style objects with an integrated button and dial that will easily fit one's hand. The totems help enhance ease of use and productivity.
Furthermore, the smart workspace can be seamlessly integrated with the user's professional software and monitor setup. The Dell Canvas 27 was developed in partnership with Microsoft and as such, it is compatible with any Windows 10 device. It also plugs into software solutions from Adobe, Autodesk, AVID, Dassault Systems and SolidWorks.
The Dell Canvas 27 will be available to purchase on Dell.com beginning March 30 with a starting price of $1,799.
