'Descendants of the Sun' season 2 cast news, spoilers: Who will star in global hit series' 2nd installment?

Talks are getting louder that "Descendants of the Sun" season 2 would definitely happen, but apparently, its lead stars Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo are not keen on reprising the roles that made them household names.

The wide popularity of the original installment, as well as clamor from fans, could have prompted the producers of the series to give it another season. However, it's possible that the second season would have a different plot altogether. Kim Eun-sook, who wrote the original story, has already confirmed that she won't be doing season 2 anymore, as she already told the tale she wanted to tell, thereby implying that season 2 would be different, plot-wise, from the first one.

Moreover, there are reports that Song Joong-ki has rejected the idea of reprising the role he made famous because the attention he's been getting from his throngs of fans, as well as the lack of privacy, has taken a toll on him. According to Asia News Stars, it could be a year before the actor decides to make TV serials again.

On the other hand, Jin Goo, who played supporting lead in the series has expressed his desire to reprise his role if need be.

"I saw reports on it, and if there is a season 2, then of course I will take part," All K Pop quoted the 36-year-old actor as saying. "I will do it again no matter how successful or not it may be since I received a great gift from it. I have to pay back what I received."

Meanwhile, there are reports that Song Joong-ki has been banned from appearing in Chinese media. This led to his being pulled out as endorser of Vivo, a smartphone company in China. Apparently, the ban is due to the rising tension between South Korea and China over the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense or THAAD.

Song Joong-ki was signed to endorse Vivo's X7 smartphone at the height of "DotS," a deal that earned him 22.8 million yuan. Soompi reported that while the ad has been pulled out, the actor would still receive his fee in full, although his other projects in China have been severely affected by the ban.

Stay tuned for more updates on the second season of "Descendants of the Sun."
