After several months of speculations, it was finally mentioned by Activision, the publisher of "Destiny," that the much-awaited sequel can be expected to arrive very soon.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed in the company's recent briefing with their investors that "Destiny 2" will be released sometime next year. Moreover, Hirshberg said that for the sequel, Activision is aiming to target a wider range of audience. It is not yet confirmed how will the company change some contents from the first game to cater a wider audience.

Still, Hirshberg made the promise to the fans of the original game title that they will not take away the elements that made them like "Destiny." Instead, they will find a way to make "Destiny 2" appeal for both the current fans of the game, as well as those who are not yet familiar with it, Yibada reported.

"We're on track and excited about what we think is going to be an awesome sequel for Destiny in 2017," said Hirshberg. "The sequel is designed to excite both our highly engaged current players, but also to broaden the appeal even further, bringing in new fans and bringing back old fans as well."

As reported by GameSpot, Hirshberg is confident that Bungie will be able to finish the game just in time for the target 2017 release date. Likewise, he admitted that there were plans in the past to release the sequel at an earlier date, although the company has faced different issues that barred them from doing so.

"Going forward, along with our partners at Bungie, we've put together what we believe is a very smart approach that will allow us to deliver that steady stream of great content to keep our players engaged and keep the universe alive and growing in the wake of that sequel," Hirshberg added.

"Destiny 2" is expected to be playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platform. Also, the game is expected to be ported to the newly released PlayStation 4 Pro. There are still no confirmed details whether the upcoming game will also be playable in the latest Nintendo Switch console.
