'Destiny 2' release date rumors: Game to come out in 2017
Though "Destiny" was released back in 2014, the game still has a solid fanbase. The developers are currently working on a sequel for the hit. Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said that the game is going to come with new features, and it might be released in 2017.
According to reports, Hirshberg was able to give an update on the project during an earnings call. He said, "We're on track and really excited for what we think is going to be an awesome sequel for Destiny in 2017."
He also said that though the sequel will be designed to excite the current players that are active in the community, he also hopes that the game will broaden the appeal to even more players, bringing in new "Destiny" fans as well as those who have lapsed on the games.
With an expected launch in 2017, some believe that "Destiny 2" will be one of the major draws for the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) next year.
Hirshberg also commented on the state of "Destiny" downloadable content (DLCs) and how Bungie is planning to move forward with them in the future.
He said, "In the past, I've mentioned that the incredible demand for 'Destiny' content has somewhat outpaced our ability to deliver upon that demand... Going forward, along with our partners at Bungie, we've put together what we believe is a very smart approach that will allow us to deliver that steady stream of great content to keep our players engaged and keep the universe alive and growing in the wake of that sequel."
Though the sequel was announced back in 2014, the release of the "Rise of Iron" expansion was said to have caused a temporary halt in development; but right now, "Destiny" fans can look forward to a release sometime next year.
"Destiny 2" is set to come out in 2017.
