"Doctor Who" fans who are eagerly awaiting its season 10 do not have to wait for long without some word on their favorite science-fiction television series.
According to reports, the upcoming season 10 of BBC's "Doctor Who" started filming last week, and to mark the occasion, the network released its very first official photo for the show. A short clip also gave a glimpse of the show's leading actors on location as they filmed new episodes in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom.
It was earlier announced that a new companion had been cast for Peter Capaldi's Doctor Who. So on June 23, the new cast member, Pearl Mackie, went on her first day of filming as Bill. The 29-year-old actress was all smiles on set, as revealed by her photo posted on the BBC's official Twitter page.
The photo's caption read: "Here's @Pearlie_mack in our FIRST PIC from location for #DoctorWho series 10!"
Fans who got wind of the ongoing filming went to the scene at Cardiff University to take some snapshots of the British actress and soon flooded social media with photos as well as videos of the cast and crew while filming went on.
The excitement at the commencement of the ten-month filming schedule for season 10 of "Doctor Who" spilled over to this week, with an update from the new cast regular, Matt Lucas, who played Nardole in the episode, "The Husbands of River Song."
Lucas said in the video, "I'm ecstatic because it's my first day back on Doctor Who."
The comedian took a video clip of himself on the set, with Capaldi and Mackie in the background. He went on to say that his appearance had originally just been for the Christmas special but that he has returned to the show for "more adventures."
Steven Moffat, who will be stepping down after this season as the show's lead writer, teased the first episode of the upcoming run, which he penned himself. In an interview coming out in the next issue of the Doctor Who Magazine, Moffat shared that he wanted it to have the feel of a first episode from a "brand new show."
"I want to leave just as it's all beginning," he added.
"Doctor Who" season 10 will return in the spring of 2017 on BBC One.
