'Downton Abbey' Season 5 Recap, Spoilers: Violet's Former-Fling Is Unveiled As She Tries To Help Kuragin
Violet (Maggie Smith) and Mary (Michelle Dockery) made important decisions in the latest episode of "Downton Abbey" which aired at 9 p.m. ET last Sunday on PBS.
Isobel (Penelope Wilton) accompanied Violet as she visited the Russian refugees who were living in poverty. There Kuragin (Rade Sherbedgia) revealed that he had lost contact with his wife Princess Irina after he was imprisoned in Russia. Violet then revealed to Isobel that Kuragin had once asked her to run away with him. After this, Violet made up her mind to help Kuragin and track his wife down, saying that she "owed Irina a debt."
Mary, Robert (Hugh Bonneville)and Branson (Allen Leech) then went ahead and looked at plans for the buildings that were proposed for Pip's Corner. Later, Shrimpie (Peter Egan) revealed that he planned to divorce his wife as he was unhappy with her.
Lord Merton (Douglas Reith) then proposed to Isobel, who was taken aback. Isobel told him that she would consider it.
As for Mary she went to London to attend a fashion show where she met Charles Blake (Julian Ovenden). She told him that she was going to inform Tony Gillingham (Tom Cullen) that she was no longer interested in getting married to him. After listening to Blake's advice to "soften the blow," Mary informed Gillingham who reacted angrily.
Anna (Joanne Froggatt), while delivering a letter from Mary to Gillingham, stopped at the place where Green had died. She was observed by a policeman.
The following day, a policeman informed her that she was spotted in the area and questioned her where she was when Green died.
Simon Bricker (Richard E. Grant) arrived at Downton and then extended his stay to check out the Della Francesca. Instead, he flirted with Cora (Elizabeth McGovern), which caused Robert a lot of problems.
Edith (Laura Carmichael) also had problems of her own, when Mrs. Drew (Emma Lowndes) refused to let her see Marigold. Then she learnt that she might soon discover the fate of Gregson (Charles Edwards) as a group was being put on trial in Germany.
