'Downton Abbey' Season 5 Spoilers, Plot Recap: The Women Hold All The Trump Cards in New Episode
"Downton Abbey" proved once again that the female characters hold all the cards and have no hesitation in going all out to get what they want. For Edith (Laura Carmichael), this meant finally getting control of her daughter Marigold, while Mary (Michelle Dockery) went ahead and got a haircut to shock and awe her suitors.
Edith first got bad news that Gregson (Charles Edwards) had died as told by her editor who visited from London to inform her. Then she also learned that she had inherited the publishing house which made her try and visit Marigold. But Mrs. Drewe (Emma Lowndes) would not permit her to do so. This led to Edith using the birth certificate to inform her that she was Marigold's mother. Edith and Mrs. Drewe then traveled to London.
Cora (Elizabeth McGovern)and Robert (Hugh Bonneville) were still dealing with the problem caused by Mr. Bricker (Richard E. Grant), which led to her telling him that he should keep away from her bed. This made Robert relent as he considered the thought about his flirtation with the maid while Cora was sick.
Violet (Maggie Smith) meanwhile was happy that the search for Prince Kuragin's (Rade Sherbedgia) wife could be fruitful and informed him about it. But he responded by saying that he loved her more than his wife. Isobel (Penelope Wilton) who was helping Violet in the search meanwhile decided that she would accept Lord Merton's (Douglas Reith) marriage proposal.
Downstairs Bates (Brendan Coyle) discovered the birth control that Anna (Joanne Froggatt) was hiding for Mary and thought it was hers. Eventually this led to them understanding that Bates did not kill Green. Meanwhile Thomas (Rob James-Collier) found out that he had been injected with saline to cure himself of homosexuality and had developed an infection.
Mary, in order to shock both Gillingham (Tom Cullen) and Blake (Julian Ovenden), then got a boyish haircut and participated in a point to point race in which Gillingham soon found a distraction in the form of another woman.
There was also the troubling news that something was wrong with Isis the dog. While the family thought she might be sick because of a germ others thought she was pregnant. Bthe dog's condition did not improve.
