'Dowton Abbey' Season 6 Spoilers, Latest News: How Cast Want Series to End for their Characters
All good things come to an end, eventually. And for "Downton Abbey," the end was announced when Season 6 was declared as the final one for the series. Filming has already commenced for Season 6, but this has not stopped the show's actors from commenting on how they would want to see their characters end the series.
Hugh Bonneville pictures Lord Grantham hopping into an open-top car with his wife, Lady Cora, in large sunglasses and a head scarf, and driving off to the Riviera just to have fun, leaving everything else behind, including their kids and all the problems and issues they have.
Lesley Nicol hopes that if Mrs. Patmore has to leave the house and retire, she would be with good people around her, not necessarily a love interest, but people who care for and respect her, so she would not have a lonely existence.
Laura Carmichael hopes Lady Edith Crawley will keep her independence, keep on writing and would take on the world with Marigold.
Phyllis Logan believes the formidable Mrs. Hughes would start her own business or cottage industry and not retire.
Rob James-Collier wants Thomas Barrow to finally find love, which will not be easy because the under-butler is gay, and homosexuality is not accepted yet in the 1920's. Obviously, his love affair will need to be toned down. In fact, in Season 5, Barrow did seek treatment to "cure" himself of homosexuality, only to discover he had been duped into buying a simple saline solution and dirty needle.
The sixth and final season of "Downton Abbey" premieres in January 2016 on PBS Masterpiece.
