'Dragon Quest Builders' latest news: Square Enix planning to expand game in the West
Sandbox action role-playing video game "Dragon Quest Builders" is almost a year old and it's still one of the most played games. It's no surprise though because the game was a big hit when it was released. And now, developer Square Enix is aiming to go further by expanding the title to the other side of the world.
In MCV's interview with "Dragon Quest Builders" producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto revealed that they are no longer planning to limit the game to its home base in Japan.
"2016 marks the 30th anniversary of Dragon Quest series. It's not as well known in the West as we would like but it really plays an epoch making role in the console gaming history," Fujimoto said. "We're committed to bringing more Dragon Quest titles in the West as we believe it truly has potential to succeed even better," he added.
According to reports, the video game company already brought two "Dragon Quest" titles to the West. One is "Dragon Quest Builders" for the PS4 and "Dragon Quest Vi" for the Nintendo 3DS. However, unlike in Japan, the titles have not garnered the same success. Nonetheless, Square Enix is positive that once they bring in more games from the series, gamers who revel in adventures will embrace the franchise.
They are also confident that the games will easily be welcomed because sandbox gaming is very popular in the West. In terms of the platform they are planning to go for, Fujimoto said they are aiming for a Vita release because they believe that "Dragon Quest Builders" is more appealing to Vita owners.
"Dragon Quest Builders" is set in the original world Alefgard and is described to be similar to "Minecraft." It is available to play for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
