'Elementary' season 5 episode 2 spoilers: Shinwell Johnson pushes Watson's buttons a bit too far?

"Elementary" season 5 premiered on Oct. 2, and fans were treated to Shinwell Johnson's proper introduction into the show. The series took an early hiatus to give way to the presidential debates, but it will be back on air on Oct. 16 for its second episode.

In the premiere episode of the fifth season titled "Folie a Deux," Shinwell (Nelsan Ellis) was brought into the story as an interesting character with an enigmatic past. Apparently, the character will put Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) to the test, as she will feel the need to help him stay on the right course. However, Shinwell's arc will reveal whether he actually wants to stay on a good path or not.

According to the spoiler for episode 2 titled "Worth Several Cities," Joan will have questions for Shinwell, but the latter may push things a bit too far. Check out the synopsis shared by Spoilers Guide:

"When the leader of a local street gang abducts Holmes to compel him to find the person responsible for a hit on his men, Holmes and Watson get caught in the middle of an international hunt to recover a centuries-old, priceless artifact. Also, Watson debates whether a personal favor Shinwell asks of her is outside her comfort zone."

Meanwhile, in related news, the lead stars of the series recently dished on what it's like to play the formidable tandem of Sherlock and Watson for five years or roughly more than 100 episodes. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly during the New York Comic-Con last Oct. 7, Liu described the feeling as both "strange and wonderful."

The 47-year-old actress admits playing Watson is challenging, but she says, "It's been an incredible experience. It really has been wonderful."

On the other hand, 43-year-old actor Jonny Lee Miller, who plays Sherlock in the series had this to say:

"When you get to do something for a long time, you get to know these characters, so you consider walking to the set with real confidence of who that person is. And that's a real gift to come a long in this line of work."

The 100th episode is yet to air, but "Elementary" season 5 episode 2 airs Sunday, Oct. 16, at 10 p.m. on CBS.
