'Elena of Avalor' news: Disney animated series scores season 3 renewal ahead of season 2 premiere
Disney channel has given "Elena of Avalor" an early renewal for season 3.
According to reports, the renewal news comes ahead of the program's season 2 premiere scheduled in the fall of this year. The show currently ranks as the no. 1 series for girls ages 2–11, and it is also listed as no.1 in its time slot among young viewers in Spain, Portugal, and the U.K.
Released in July 2016, "Elena of Avalor" follows an adventurous and brave teenager who becomes a crown princess in a kingdom inspired by Latin cultures. It received mostly positive reviews from critics for its plot that brings the Latinos together by celebrating the community's rich culture and history.
Aimee Carrero voices the lead character, while other voice actors in the series include Joseph Haro, Chris Parnell, Emiliano DÃez, Jillian Rose Reed, Joe Nunez, Jenna Ortega, Yvette Nicole Brown, Carlos Alazraqui, Julia Vera, Christian Lanz, Jorge Diaz, and Keith Ferguson.
Constance Marie, Lou Diamond Phillips, Rich Sommer, Justina Machado, and Jaime Camil also serve as voice actors in the series for recurring characters.
"With this new season order, the creative team, led by Craig Gerber and Silvia Olivas, has some exciting surprises in store for Elena on her journey to becoming queen," Disney exec Nancy Kanter said in a press statement. "We're looking forward to having our young viewers follow along on Elena's adventure, while also continuing to build the 'Elena of Avalor' experience for them beyond the screen," she added.
Since the show's launch, Elena has inspired a line of dolls from Hasbro and Disney Store. Over a million dolls have been sold, with new toys expected to debut at New York's Toy Fair this weekend. Elena is also prominently featured at Disney Parks and Resorts where the character makes special appearances and greets visitors. Other products from the franchise include an original soundtrack, print and e-book titles, as well as multiple DVD releases.
The second season of "Elena of Avalor" premieres Fall 2017 on Disney.
