'Empire' season 3 spoilers news: Kid Cudi, Taye Diggs board series
Rapper/actor Kid Cudi and film/stage/TV actor Taye Diggs are the latest additions to the "Empire" family.
On Wednesday, July 20, Kid Cudi (real name Scott Mescudi) announced that he had wrapped his first episode of the popular Fox musical drama on Twitter. "Already wrapped my first episode of 'Empire' and cant be more geeked for everyone to see!" he wrote.
The rapper also shared that he is playing a character named Gram.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Cudi will be playing the role of an independent rapper who is a rival to Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray). Apart from being competitors in the recording studio, the two musicians' love lives will also overlap. EW notes that Cudi's Gram will be dating Tiana (Serayah McNeill), Hakeem's ex.
Prior to his casting in "Empire," Cudi appeared in various films, including "Entourage" (2015), "Need for Speed" (2014), and "Vincent-N-Roxxy" (2016).
Meanwhile, "Private Practice" alum Taye Diggs has signed on to "Empire" in the major recurring role of Angelo Dubois.
According to TVLine, Dubois is a Harvard Law grad who comes from a wealthy New York family but opts to spend his time and resources on community issues and local politics. The character is said to draw comparisons to Barack Obama. The character will debut in the "Empire" season 3 premiere episode.
Diggs and Kid Cudi are set to join fellow "Empire" newcomers singer Sierra McClain, rapper French Montana, and music mogul Birdman.
McClain will play the role of Nessa, a new talent Lucious (Terrence Howard) will want to sign to Empire. She is said to be a protege of Shyne (Xzibit), Lucious' rival. French Montana will play Vaughn, a member of Lucious' inner circle and a possible new love interest for Cookie (Taraji P. Henson). Birdman will appear in the series as himself.
"Empire" season 3 debuts Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
