The fourth episode of "Empire" season 3 ended with a shocking hookup that is bound to create even more friction among the Lyon family members.

In "Cupid Kills," Andre (Trai Byers) succeeded in getting singing prodigy Nessa (Sierra McClain) to sign on to Empire against Shyne's (Xzibit) wishes. Shyne, Nessa's brother, also happens to be a bitter rival of Lucious (Terrence Howard), Andre's father. To make things even more complicated, Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray), Andre's younger brother, also happens to have a thing for Nessa.

As if this potential new romance wasn't weird enough, Nessa and Andre's hookup also involved Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday), Andre's recently deceased wife.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, "Empire" co-executive producer Matt Pyken dished about the controversial scene and what's ahead in the popular FOX musical drama.

Pyken explained the decision to put Nessa and Andre together, saying "The plan for those two is that because Andre is the one Lyon brother who doesn't do music, it's interesting for him to finally find his muse in a girl who's all about music."

"All things in the family eventually come out," he answered when asked if Hakeem will find out about Nessa and Andre. "Someone's gonna find out. You can be sure sparks will fly from that," he added.

The "Empire" boss also revealed that the Ghost/Vision Rhonda situation will soon be resolved, but didn't say how.

"[T]here will be some very interesting resolution," he said, adding that it will be something for the audience to look forward to.

Meanwhile, "Cupid Kills" also found Jamal (Jussie Smollett) seemingly on the verge of a major breakdown. Against his counselor's advice, Jamal took prescription pills to get through a performance.

But in an interview with HollywoodLife.com, Smollett said that he is very happy with where Jamal is going and said that this has been his toughest season yet.

"It really has made me do the extra, extra work!" he shared. "And I love it, and without giving to much away this season I love where Jamal is," he continued.

"Empire" season 3 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on FOX.
