'Enchanted 2' release date and updates: Disney movie will be directed by 'Hairspray's' Adam Shankman
Back in 2007, Disney released "Enchanted" in cinemas and it was a huge hit. Amy Adams played Princess Giselle, a Disney princess who found herself stuck in the not-so-happy city of New York.
A sequel has been in development since 2010 but progress has stalled since then. Reports are saying that "Enchanted 2" is finally gaining some speed and "Hairspray" director Adam Shankman is already in talks to direct it.
The news came from The Hollywood Reporter and the outlet also said the sequel is going to be titled "Disenchanted." Shankman already has a lot of musicals under his belt like "Rock of Ages" and several episodes of "Glee," so taking the reins for the "Enchanted" sequel could very well be under his skill set.
Based on the title, it looks like Giselle (Amy Adams) will be having doubts about her decision of staying in New York with Robert (Patrick Dempsey); after all, her home of Andalasia was filled with happy endings and friendly creatures in every corner. Will the sequel have her wanting to return to her original world?
Reports said that the sequel was originally going to be helmed by "The Proposal" director Anne Fletcher but since progress on the movie has been incredibly slow, it's natural that Disney decide to move in a different direction.
The original director of "Enchanted" was Kevin Lima and the music came from the famous Alan Menken, who was responsible for scoring movies like "Aladdin" and "Beauty and the Beast." Their is no news of either of the two's involvement with the sequel, however. Even Bill Kelly, who wrote the original "Enchanted," is not in the credits list for the movie.
Hopefully Shankman can make still make the movie a hit just as good as the first "Enchanted."
"Disenchanted" is set for release in 2018.
