'Fantastic Beasts 2' release date, news: Leta Lestrange to have an expanded role in the sequel
Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) is clearly the main character in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," but a number of other characters are going to garner a lot of attention in the sequel. Johnny Depp has already been cast as the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, and future Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore is also going to be in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2," although the role hasn't been cast yet. Another character that's going to be featured prominently in the sequel is Newt's former love interest Leta Lestrange (Zoë Kravitz).
In an interview with Collider, Kravitz revealed that Leta's going to have a bigger role in the sequel, and her relationship with Newt is going to be explored as well. "The relationship between Leta and Newt Scamander is a complex relationship, so I think there will be a lot of time for that to grow and develop, which will fun," she stated.
Kravitz admitted that she doesn't really know much about the relationship between the two. "I know nothing! I have an idea, based off of when I auditioned, but I know nothing," he said.
Fans only caught a glimpse of Leta in "Fantastic Beasts" when she briefly appeared in a photo in Newt's workshop, but Kravitz is still excited to land a role in the film.
"The script was very under wraps, so even signing onto it, I hadn't read the script. I just went off of who was involved, and J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter films, so I knew it was going to be incredible, especially with how involved J.K. is," she said.
It's clear that Leta is going to be an important character moving forward. Fans will only take one look at the character's surname and they will know that she may be a relative of the devious Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter). Perhaps fans may even get to know more about the Lestranges in future "Fantastic Beasts" films.
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2" is scheduled to premiere on Nov. 16, 2018.
