'Frozen 2' spoilers: Idina Menzel's Elsa joke reveals plot twist?
Idina Menzel made an Elsa joke and took the internet by storm when the story made the rounds.
At a recent tribute event honoring the composer John Williams, Menzel was asked about her involvement in the Disney's upcoming sequel, "Frozen 2," where she voices the lead character Elsa. At this stage, very little information has been shared regarding the story and characters for the new film that fans jump at the slightest mention of their favorite Disney princess/queen.
So when Menzel gave up a tidbit which was meant to be a joke, the news spread like wildfire and had fans hyperventilating at the possibility of Elsa's untimely demise.
"We are at story writing and they're working on it and I think I'm in it. That's all I know — unless maybe Elsa falls off an ice cliff and she dies in the first five minutes," quipped Menzel.
Joke or not, there are some who just cannot let go of the possibility of having a major character's death in the upcoming sequel to the animated mega-hit. It is not any more reassuring for expectant fans to think of other Disney favorite hits which indeed featured devastating loss of a loved one, including the classic "The Lion King," which had been another Disney sensation. Then there was also "Bambi" and "Dumbo," and the more recent, "Up."
With the production of "Frozen 2" still at the writing stage, nothing is really set in stone as yet. It is probably not worth it for fans to lose sleep as yet over thinking of the possibility.
On another note, Menzel was also asked to share her views on her character on "Frozen 2" possibly having a girlfriend, with the clamor from the LGBT community online getting very strong.
The 41-year-old singer told Entertainment Weekly, "I think it's great. Disney's just gotta contend with that. I'll let them figure that out."
So far, there has been no release date announced for "Frozen 2."
