'Game of Thrones' season 7 release date, news and updates: Set pics have Lannisters prepping for big battle
HBO's "Game of Thrones" has turned out to be one of the network's most successful shows, and it only has two seasons left before its eventual end. Set photos have come up online showing Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Bronn (Jerome Flynn) riding with what some fans believe are extras that will stand in for the Lannister army.
Thanks to Rick Zornow on Twitter, fans get a behind-the-scenes look at the Lannister army being assembled. The last season of "Game of Thrones" saw the destruction of the Tyrell line and Cersei (Lena Headey) being crowned as queen. Given this, fans suspect that the Tyrells want to get their revenge for what Cersei has done to their family.
Watchers on the Wall has pointed out that some of the people actually look like Tarly bannermen marching alongside the Lannisters. The Tarlys were originally bannermen for the Tyrells, so it looks like these pictures confirm the rumored betrayal of House Tarly to the royals in Highgarden.
Adrian Alonso has also been able to snap a close-up of Jaime Lannister, and it's confirmed that Jaime is holding Joffrey's sword, Widow's Wail. In the series, Ned Stark's (Sean Bean) greatsword Ice was taken apart by the Lannisters and turned into two individual Valyrian steel swords. The first sword that was presented to Jaime was given to Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) and was dubbed "Oathkeeper." Joffrey was then given the other one which he named Widow's Wail, but the only thing that he ever used it for was to cut the pie in the Purple Wedding.
No official release date has been announced for the seventh season of "Game of Thrones," but fans are expecting it to air on HBO sometime next year. Stay tuned for more updates on HBO's hit TV show.
