'Game of Thrones' season 7 spoilers: regular filming length expected despite reduced number of episodes
The seventh season of "Game of Thrones" will only have seven episodes instead of the usual 10, but actor Iain Glen revealed that the production will still take a long time in order to come up with "extraordinary" episodes.
"They are taking the length of time it takes to shoot ten episodes to shoot just seven this year and six next year, the actor who portrays the role of Ser Jorah Mormont stated in an interview with RadioTimes. "I think the scale and size of the set pieces, the world that is being created it's just getting more and more extraordinary and they feel they need that time to shoot seven hours as opposed to ten.
Filming for season 7 started in Aug. 2016 at the Titanic Studios in Belfast, Ireland. Since there are a lot of scenes that require certain weather conditions, they have to delay their shooting until the later part of the year. This means that the production for the upcoming season will be concluded in February.
Meanwhile, showrunners David Benioff and Daniel Weiss teased that a lot of things are about to happen in the last remaining hours of "Game of Thrones."
Benioff hinted that Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) will finally land in Westeros to fight for her right to the Iron Throne, which is currently occupied by Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). The North, on the other hand, is being led by Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), but the Night King is still out there waiting to attack.
"The pieces are on the board now. Some of the pieces have been removed from the board and we are heading toward the end game," the executive producer also told the publication.
On the other hand, actress Sophie Turner told Express UK in December that her character Sansa Stark will feel more powerful after she managed to help her half-brother, Jon Snow, defeat Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) in season 6. "Whether she enjoyed it. Whether it's a power trip. But she definitely is a lot more powerful, and it'll be very interesting to see how she handles that coming up this season," the actress stated.
HBO is expected to air "Game of Thrones" season 7 in mid-2017.
