The video game franchise "Gears of War" is getting a movie adaptation. "Gears of War" development director Rod Fergusson confirmed that the film will be developed by Universal Studios.

According to reports, Fergusson announced last Wednesday through a live stream video that the film will be created done under the management of the aforementioned companies.

"We have a partnership with Universal Studios and Gears of War is getting a movie," Fergusson said.

Though there hasn't been any official announcements about the storyline of the movie, Fergusson teased that it will most likely not stay faithful to the game canon.

"The thing about the way you do a movie like this, you have to realize it's a different medium with a different audience," Fergusson said. "If you were to go in and say it's going to be 100 percent faithful to the game canon, or the story of the game, what's going to happen is it's not going to be the best movie. What we're going to focus on is making the best 'Gears' movie possible, as opposed to one that's closest to the games," he added.

The development director stated that the adaptation is still in the early stages of its development. He refused to announce the director and the writers for the movie.

Though not much is known about the upcoming film, reports suggested that Scott Suber and Dylan Clark are set to produce the movie adaptation. Suber is best known for his work with "Ted" and "Central Intelligence." Clark, on the other hand, is known for his work with "Planet of the Apes."

Fergusson has yet to reveal the release date for the "Gears of War" film.

Stay tuned for more updates on the "Gears of War" movie. In the meantime, fans can play "Gears of War 4" on the Xbox One and PC.
