Another movie based on a video game is coming to town soon. Universal Pictures has recently acquired the rights to adapt Microsoft Studio's long-running Xbox franchise "Gears of War."

According to reports, developer The Coalition Studio chief Rod Fergusson announced the news during a live broadcast for "Gears of War 4."

"We have a partnership with Universal Studios and 'Gears of War' is getting a movie," Fergusson said during the stream.

The game, which has been played by more than 45 million people, is expected to be a hit among those who have followed the franchise since its first title. But fans will have to take note that the movie adaptation will take on a new direction.

As detailed in a report, Universal is planning to create something totally new. It will be getting concepts, characters and plots from the games in order to develop a fresh storyline that fans will be surprised by but can still somehow recognize the vibe of game.

To those who are not yet in the loop, "Gears of War" follows the story of the conflict between the Locust Horde and the Lambent & the Swarm. It features protagonist Marcus Fenix, a solider in the Coalition of Ordered Governments. In an effort to save humanity, Fenix has been assigned to lead a team to destroy the Locust Horde, which is the subterranean reptilian hominids.

Fergusson explained in an interview with Variety that the reason why they are going to create a new story for the game is because they are looking at two different audiences. They want to make the film enticing for both gamers and non-gamers.

Fergusson also thought that some video game movies in the past turned out to be flops because they only focused on pleasing the gamer audience.

As of now, details about the movie are still scarce but it's made known that Scott Stuber of "Central Intelligence" and Dylan Clark of "Planet of the Apes" are going to be the film's producers.

Fans who are looking forward to the "Gears of War" movie will have to stay tuned for more details.
