George Michael's childhood friend, Andros Georgiou, has recently revealed that the singer's untimely death is possibly linked to drugs.

As reported by BBC News, Georgiou appeared on BBC's Victoria Derbyshire program, and he shared that the "Careless Whisper" singer — whose "favorite drugs" included crack cocaine — likely died accidentally and did not commit suicide as some rumors have suggested.

Michael's public bout with substance abuse and arrests in the past have led many people to believe that his sudden death may have been due to his drug use. Fuel was added to the speculative fire when the family refused to comment details pertaining to the death of the 53-year-old music legend last month.

The cause of Michael's death is still unclear after the police said that a post-mortem examination was "inconclusive." Hence, more tests are currently being carried out to determine what led to his demise. So far, despite the ongoing investigation of his unexplained death, it is not being treated as suspicious.

Georgiou, an ex-music producer who toured with Michael until their falling out in 1998, said he had spoken to people who were close to the music icon towards the end of his life. He believed that Michael "was actually getting better... he was trying to lead a normal life again and I believe he was dragged back into the dark side."

"Hard drugs had been back in his life," Georgiou said. "I just think he took too much of something, mixed with antidepressants," he went on to say.

The former music producer insists that despite Michael's struggles with his mental health, Michael's death was an accident, and he does not believe it to be a suicide.

"I believe he had suicidal thoughts, because his mental health was all over the place. But I don't believe this was suicide," Georgiou said.

Georgiou also said, "I think his heart just stopped beating."
