'Girl Meets World' news: 'No official word' on rumored cancellation yet, as per show's writers
"Girl Meets World" recently made headlines because of its rumored cancellation, but fans shouldn't give up just yet because a season 4 renewal for the hit Disney XD spinoff might still be in the cards.
Cast member and director Rider Strong revealed on a podcast last week that the series would conclude with season 3. This was clearly bad news for the "Girl Meets World" fans, but the writers were quick to clarify that nothing has been decided yet. "There is no official word as yet. Disney decision on season 4 coming soon. Officially, season 3 ends with 3 wonderful episodes in January," the writers posted on their official Twitter feed last Friday.
On another tweet, the writers expressed their gratitude to the program's fans. They also got a good-natured dig at Strong's character in the original franchise who's known to usually make mistakes. "As much as I love Shawn Hunter, having created his character and everything, you have to remember that he was wrong a lot," the post reads.
Strong previously mentioned on his "Literary Disco" podcast that the show has already "ended." Although his statement is quite straightforward, many fans were surprised because "Girl Meets World" is a success and is only in its third year.
Given the season 3 finale's title "Girl Meets Goodbye," it is speculated that Disney is already teasing about the series' end. The season 3 finale will explore a storyline that will take viewers on a trip down to memory lane because a slew of "Boy Meets World" alums is set to return to the fold, including Strong, Will Friedle as Eric, and the fan-favorite Mr. Feeny himself, William Daniels.
The third season of "Girl Meets World" returns on Friday, Jan. 6, and the season officially wraps up on Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. ET on Disney XD.
