'Girl Meets World' season 4 renewal update: Disney's decision 'coming soon'
Fans will learn of the fate of "Girl Meets World" season 4 soon, according to the writers who took to Twitter to douse rumors of the cancellation of the series.
A couple of days ago, Rider Strong, who plays the role of Shawn Hunter in the series, fanned in his podcast, "Literary Disco," longstanding reports that the show will end after season 3.
The actor said that "the show ended," which had many believing that "Girl Meets World" season 4 will not happen. In light of Strong's comments, the writers of the show tweeted, "As much as I love Shawn Hunter, having created his character and everything, you have to remember that he was wrong a lot."
In a follow-up tweet, they said that "there is no official word as yet" and that Disney's official decision on "Girl Meets World" season 4 will be "coming soon."
"Whatever happens, it has been a great joy to get to continue this story. If it is over, thank you. If not, we will keep giving our best," they continued in another tweet.
Worries about the show's lifeline began when filming for "Girl Meets World" season 3 wrapped in July with lead star Rowan Blanchard expressing concern that the show is yet to be renewed.
The latter half of last year saw Blanchard and her co-stars August Maturo and Cheryl Texiera campaigning for "Girl Meets World" season 4 to get the green light.
Another source of alarm is that the "Girl Meets World" season 3 finale is titled "Girl Meets Goodbye." This season ender puts together beloved characters from the original series, "Boy Meets World," in one place.
Strong will be in it along with Cory's (Ben Savage) parents played by William Russ and Betsy Randle), Will Friedle who played Eric, William Daniels as Mr. Feeny and Anthony Tyler Quinn returning as Mr. Turner.
Lee Norris will also reprise his role as Minkus while Lindsay Ridgeway and Lily Nicksay will be back as well. With such a star-studded lineup, the "Girl Meets World" season 3 finale feels more like a series finale.
Nevertheless, the words of the writers provide a glimmer of hope. Now, fans will just have to wait for Disney's verdict about "Girl Meets World" season 4.
For now, fans should look forward to the show's return on Friday, Jan. 6, at 6 p.m. ET with a one-hour special, "World Meets Girl."
