'Girl Meets World' series finale air date, latest news: Disney releases promotional video for series' final episode
After confirming its cancellation, Disney has recently released the series finale trailer for "Girl Meets World."
With three seasons under its belt, "Girl Meets World" officially concludes with a finale episode which features a reunion of the majority of the cast of "Boy Meets World," the popular 90s teen comedy series that the current Disney show is a spinoff of.
In the exclusive series finale promo, William Daniels' Mr. Feeny, an important parental figure in the original ABC comedy, appears in the last episode of "Girl Meets World" as Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga's (Danielle Fishel) daughter, Riley (Rowan Blanchard), and her friends prepare to say goodbye to each other and to the show's fans.
The last episode of "Girl Meets World" is titled "Girl Meets Goodbye." After Topanga is promoted as the head of the London branch of her law firm, the Matthews family will be dealing with a huge decision that could change their lives forever.
Although Disney has made the decision to cancel the show and end it after three seasons, showrunner Michael Jacobs disagrees with the call and wanted the series to go on for at least another season.
"We are certainly having discussions, there are some interested platforms," Jacobs told TheWrap. "I don't think 'Girl' should have been canceled. We signed to do four seasons. I thought we would be able to tell stories through four seasons. That's the way we set it up. It was going to be a remarkable final year. But I understand, things end," the showrunner added.
Jacobs also mentioned that discussions are currently underway regarding the possibility of continuing "Girl Meets World" in other platforms. There are current speculations that Netflix may consider salvaging the sitcom and continue airing the show through its online streaming service, as reported by Deadline.
The final episode of "Girl Meets World" is scheduled to air on Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. ET on the Disney Channel.
